FRITZ SCHERZ TO HOST 3rd ANNUAL THANK YOU DINNER FOR VETERANS!

I will hold my 3rd Annual Thank You Dinner for all Town of Verona Veterans and their families on Monday, November 11th from 5pm to 6pm at the Verona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6811 (4928 Spring Rd.) in Verona.

“I have a deep respect for Veterans and thought this would be a nice way to thank them again,” said Scherz. “The last two years I’ve held this event, there was a nice turnout. It was pleasing to see Veterans of various ages attend, share their stories with each other, and even make some new friends.  Also, I want people to know that as with last two years I’ve held this dinner, no town funds are being used for it whatsoever as this is not a government-based event.  Rather, I am personally covering the cost because this is just something I thought would be nice to do.  In fact, my family looks forward to this annual event. So, if you’re a Veteran from the Town of Verona, I sure hope to see you and your family at my Thank You Dinner!”

While reservations are not mandatory, Veterans who plan on attending are asked to contact me at
fritz@fritzscherz.com and/or (315) 363-3509 by November 9th so he can better plan on how much food to have. For more information on Fritz, go to:  www.fritzscherz.com, Fritz’s Twitter feed at: www.twitter.com/fritzscherz, and/or his blog at: www.fritzscherz.blogspot.com.

COUNCILMAN FRITZ SCHERZ CALLS ON NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATURE TO CHANGE ANIMAL CRUELTY LAWS

Based on the increased amount of animal cruelty, I am hopeful the New York State Legislature will change animal cruelty laws.  I've created an on-line petition regarding such: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/reclassify-animal-cruelty-laws.html and plan to submit it to the New York State Legislature by October 31, 2013.

“Sadly, animal cruelty has become increasingly prevalent in society,” said Scherz.  “Currently, in New York State animal cruelty is considered a violation of Ag and Markets Law. Because of this, any penalties for those found guilty of animal cruelty are often minimal. I call on the New York State Legislature to change the laws on animal cruelty and have these violations covered by penal law. By doing so, it would be easier for law enforcement to prosecute these cases. Moreover, it would increase the penalties for repeat offenders and hopefully act as a deterrent. I know attempts have been made at strengthening animal cruelty laws. For example, Senator Griffo has sponsored a bipartisan bill calling for an animal abuse registry and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi has co-sponsored a bill that would remove animal cruelty violations from Ag and Markets Law and put them under the penal code, which is exactly what I’m hopeful of. I applaud both the Senator and Assemblyman for their common sense legislation and hope their colleagues on both sides of the aisle will support their efforts. I hope those that feel the way I do on this issue will consider signing my on-line petition.
